Easy DIY Summer Maxi Dress for Big Beautiful Women

Image
Here is a beautiful summer dress I made for  myself. This dress is EASY, Easy, easy!! I am about a size 18-22. I am starting to earn my spare tire; as I am nearing 50. If you are around my age; you will know exactly what I mean. It is really hard for me to find a dress in the stores that I would be comfortable in or one that I feel would flatter my body type. So I made this one. Without the sash; it looked like a great maternity dress. Since I am well pass the age of childbearing; I added the sash. So if you are looking for a great maternity/maxi dress, this dress would fit you with or without the sash.  My dress form goes out to about a size 16; so the dress is loose on my dress form.   Supplies: Materials needed: 2-3 yards of  stretchy material, thread to match, sharp scissors, and pins. Oh, and of course, a sewing machine. I used contrasting knit material I found on sale at Hancocks. You may need a yard for the bodice and 2 yards for the skirt of contrasting color or

You will need a measuring tape, 2 yards of a solid material and 2 yards of thin material for your overlay. We used a jersey knit for this dress. Scissors and thread to match. This is an easy summer dress with a thin overlay. It's like sewing a shorter dress into a longer dress. Very pretty! And fun to make! Measurements: You will need the following measurements; Bust all the way around, measure your waist, measure from top of bust to where you would like the waist to fall on the dress (can be right at your last rib). This pattern is similar to the Easy DIY Summer dress ; except you will only sew the two dresses together.  Then you should measure from the waist to your feet to get your skirt length for the Overlay. Measure to the knees or above the knees for the inner skirt. Just make it your own!!  Next measure over your shoulders from where you would like the dress to begin to the back where the dress will begin in the back to get the measurements for your

Materials needed: 2-3 yards of  stretchy material, thread to match, sharp scissors, and pins. Oh, and of course, a sewing machine. We used a great knit; the same type of material you can use to make a bathing suit to make these dresses. Time to make this dress 1-2 hours depending on your skill level.  These 2 easy summer dresses were a breeze to make. It made a great summer project to do with my 2 nieces who wanted to learn how to sew. You can make it your own!! We did with each dress.  First  decide where you would like the dress to fall on your chest and length of skirt.  Then you will need the following measurements; Bust all the way around, measure your waist, measure from top of bust to where you would like the waist to fall on the dress (can be right at your last rib).  Then you should measure from the waist to your feet to get your skirt length or if you like your skirts shorter you can cut the skirt to your preferred length. Just make it your own!! That&
